Smith-Kerrison Punch Forcep / Rongeur

Smith‑Kerrison Punch Forcep or Kerrison rongeur is used to nibble away small pieces of bone or tissue during delicate procedures.

Despite “forcep” in the name, it functions more like a bone punch/rongeur than standard forceps that grasp tissue.  Surgical stainless steel with variations of bite sizes from 1 - 4mm.  The sharp inner blade slides against a footplate to shear bone when the handle is squeezed.

Particularly useful in procedures requiring careful bone removal where underlying neural structures must be protected, including spinal decompression, neurosurgery or orthopaedic procedures where fine bone shaping is needed.
