Spencer Wells Artery Forceps - haemostatic surgical instrument used to clamp and control bleeding vessels during surgery, one of the most common artery forceps.
Key Features:
- Design: Straight or curved blades with transverse serrations along the inner surface for secure grip.
- Locking mechanism: Ratchet catch near the finger rings to hold vessels or tissues firmly.
- Tip: Narrower than some heavier forceps (e.g., Rochester-Pean), allowing for more precise clamping.
Uses:
- Clamping small to medium blood vessels to achieve haemostasis.
- Holding tissues or structures temporarily during dissection.
Comparison:
- Vs. Mosquito forceps: Larger and stronger; mosquito forceps are for very fine, small vessels.
- Vs. Crile forceps: Similar, but Spencer Wells are generally slightly heavier and used for larger vessels.
- Vs. Rochester Pean: Spencer Wells are lighter and used for less bulky tissue.
